Give your surfaces
a story.
Turn a reference into a textured mesh. Turn an image into a PBR material. Create, apply and explore your next surface inside Blender.
Workflow preview
See Surface in action.
From a text prompt to a textured mesh. From a single image to a PBR material. Watch both workflows inside Blender.
Choose your starting point
One workspace.
Two creative workflows.
Start with the object you want to texture, or the material you want to create. Surface brings both into Blender's familiar material workflow.
Give your mesh a new look.
Use an image, a text description, or both to guide multi-view texture generation. Bake the result and bring it back to your selected mesh.
- Image-only guidance, with optional prompts and presets.
- 6-view, 10-view, manual camera and GGUF workflows.
- Existing UVs or a generated UV layout.
Multi-view generation interprets your reference. It does not promise an exact copy of every image detail.
Find the material in an image.
Choose a reference image and generate Base Color, Normal, Roughness, Metallic and Height maps. Surface builds a Blender material from the result.
- A simple image input, with no prompt required.
- Apply to the active slot of a selected UV-mapped mesh.
- Or create a standalone material for later use.
Uses existing UVs; this mode does not bake to mesh geometry. Height is included as a texture, not automatically connected to displacement.

Less setup between
the idea and the surface.
Your image sets the direction.
Use Image Only when you want the visual to lead. Add text or a preset when you want to steer the material further.
Maps with a place to go.
Base Color, Normal, Roughness and Metallic are connected to the shader. Generated texture images are packed into your blend file.
Built around your machine.
Generate through a local ComfyUI backend. The prepared Windows package includes its own Python environment and required nodes.
Choose how you generate.
Work with automatic views or manual camera inputs. GGUF support and adjustable resolutions let you tune the workflow for your setup.
Know which stage is running.
Follow the active stage and reported step progress. Measurable stages show an estimated remaining time; Cancel is available during generation.
Keep the result in Blender.
Apply a texture set to your selected object, or keep an image-generated material ready for another UV-mapped asset.
From idea to material
Bring a reference.
Make it part of your scene.
Choose your input.
Select your object for Texture, or choose an image for PBR Material. Give the workflow a clear visual direction.
Explore a new surface.
Run the local generation workflow. Watch its progress, inspect the result and try another direction when you need to.
Keep working in Blender.
The generated textures become part of your material workflow. Adjust the shader, light the scene and make the result your own.
Free Blender add-on
Made to be shared.
Built to be used.
Surface is free. The distribution is simple: a Blender add-on, a model-free Windows backend, and separate model downloads from their publishers.
Packages prepared · Upload pendingDownloads will be listed in the runtime hub when the packages are uploaded. Model usage remains subject to each publisher's license.
The Blender add-on
Two generation pages, material integration, workflow controls and model download links.
The local backend
ComfyUI, Python and the required nodes in one Windows package. Model weights are downloaded separately.
A separate guide
Installation, model setup and detailed workflow documentation will have their own Docs page. Current setup notes are available in the runtime hub.
Windows 64-bit · NVIDIA GPU ·
Blender 5.2 LTS tested
GPU memory needs depend on the model, resolution and workflow.
A few things to know
Before you begin.
A clear starting point. Detailed setup and troubleshooting belong in the separate documentation.
Is MotionSmith Surface free?
Yes. The Blender add-on is free and released under GPL-3.0-or-later. ComfyUI, the bundled tools and downloaded models retain their own licenses. In particular, Chord carries a Research-Only license.
How are Texture and PBR Material different?
Texture generates multiple views and bakes them for your mesh. PBR Material estimates material maps from a single image and creates a Blender material using existing UVs.
Do I need to install Python myself?
The prepared Windows backend includes its own Python runtime and dependencies. Model weights are separate downloads. Set the backend folder in Preferences to connect Blender to it.
Can I generate without a prompt or preset?
Yes. Texture has an Image Only mode that ignores positive and negative prompts. PBR Material takes an image directly and does not require a prompt.
